The Whooo's Reading autograder is a complex algorithm made up of many puzzle pieces. Take a look at the rubrics below to get an idea of how the autograder scores your students' open-ended quiz question responses.
Please note that while these rubrics combine neighboring academic levels to give you an idea of scoring criteria, the autograder applies increasingly rigorous standards to each academic level. These rubrics are meant to serve as a general guideline. For example, the rubric for academic fourth and fifth graders is similar, but students at the fifth-grade academic level will be held to a higher standard than those at the fourth-grade academic level.
Each open-ended quiz question is scored out of 2 points, bringing the total possible points of a quiz to 4 points, which aligns with a mastery-based grading system.
Kindergarten & First Grade:
2 - Wrote 1+ sentences, answered the question fully
1.5 - Wrote a sentence fragment or 1-2 sentences, answered the question fully, maybe did not restate the question
1 - Partially answered the question, but either did not answer all parts of the question, did not write enough, or devolved into plot summary
0.5 - Plot summary or personal opinion only, did not answer the question
0 - Answer contains or is entirely bad faith
Second & Third Grade:

1.5 - Wrote 1-4 sentences, restated and answered the question fully with 1-2 details from the text, may not be as well organized
1 - Answered the question but did not restate the question, was overly vague, did not supply evidence, is not long enough, or did not address all parts of the question
0.5 - Plot summary or personal opinion only, did not attempt to answer the question
0 - Answer contains or is entirely bad faith
Note: The autograder takes into consideration your students' academic levels before their grade levels. If you are a teacher on Silver or Gold, you can edit your students' academic levels to differentiate the autograder's scoring for your students, or teachers on any Whooo's Reading plan can customize the scoring difficulty of the autograder for your class as a whole.
