We wish we could offer content in Spanish, but since everything is graded automatically by our algorithms, our small team will need to develop separate algorithms for Spanish and other languages, which will take time. We hope that is a possibility in our future, as it means a lot to us to support language diversity and growth.
Students can read books in Spanish and still use Whooo's Reading. If they read books in Spanish, they can choose that book in the search bar one of three ways: 1) Search for the English version, 2) Search for the Spanish version and choose it if available, and 3) If the Spanish version is not available, they can add it manually.
We also have a number of Spanish texts available to read online that teachers can assign to students through the Activities page under the Teacher Picks tab. After clicking Discover, under the the Topic filter, select Spanish.
That being said, the quiz questions, Owlfonso's feedback, and the autograder all work in English, so the students will only get the full benefit of the program if they type their responses in English.
One thing that might help ELL students is the voice-to-text and text-to-voice features. Students can have the questions of the quizzes read to them, and they can also speak their answers into the microphone and their words will be transcribed into text.
Another feature that may help ELL students is our sentence starters, which give students the first words of a written response, to help them jump-start their thoughts, while also typing a bit less.
